Poleri, David (Samuel)

Poleri, David (Samuel) , American tenor; b. Philadelphia, Jan. 10, 1921; d. in a helicopter and also appeared in Munich, Hawaii, Dec. 13, 1967. He studied at the Philadelphia Academy of Vocal Arts, the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood, and with Alberto Sciarretti. In 1945 he sang with the Philadelphia Orch. In 1949 he made his operatic debut as Gounod’s Faust with Gallo’s San Carlo Opera on a tour in Chicago. He subsequently was a guest artist with various opera companies and a soloist with various orchs. in the U.S. He also sang at the Edinburgh Festivals (1951, 1955) and at London’s Covent Garden (1956). hi 1954 he created the role of Michele in Menotti’s The Saint of Bleecker Street. In 1955 he appeared as Cavaradossi on NBC-TV.
