Pohle, David , German composer; b. Marienberg, near Chemnitz, 1624; d. Merseburg, Dec. 20, 1695. He was a student of Schütz in Dresden, and then was active at the court there and in Merseburg, Kassel, Weissenfeis, and Zeitz before returning to Merseburg. In 1660 he was made Konzertmeister and in 1661 Kapellmeister in Halle. He was again active in Weissenfels and Zeitz (1674–77), serving as Kapellmeister in the latter from 1678 to 1680. From 1682 he was Kapellmeister in Merseburg. He composed several Singspiels, much sacred music, some secular vocal pieces, and 25 instrumental sonatas.
