Piccinini, Alessandro, Italian lutenist, writer on music, and composer; b. Bologna, Dec. 30, 1566; d. probably there, c. 1638. He was born into a musical family In 1582 he was called to the ducal court in Mantua, but soon thereafter he joined the rest of his family at the Este court in Ferrara. From 1597 to 1621 he was in the service of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini. He publ. 2 vols, of dances and toccatas for lute and chitarrone (Bologna, 1623, 1639).
