Pezel (Petzold, Petzel, Pezelius, etc.), Johann Christoph
Pezel (Petzold, Petzel, Pezelius, etc.), Johann Christoph, German bandsman and composer; b. Glatz, Dec. 5, 1639; d. Bautzen, Oct. 13, 1694. He was made 4th Kunstgeiger in the Leipzig town band in 1664, and in 1670 was promoted to Stadtpfeifer. Because of the plague, he left Leipzig in 1681 for Bautzen, where he remained until his death. He publ, several collections: Musica vespertina Lipsicaca (1669), Hora decima musicorum Lipsiensium, oder Musicalische Arbeit zum Ab-blasen (1670), Intraden (1676), Delitiae musicales, oder Lust-Music (1678), etc. His most interesting work is Fünffstimmigte blasende Musik (1685).
