Paix, Jakob
Paix, Jakob, German organist and composer; b. Augsburg, 1556; d. probably in Hiltpolstein, after 1623. He was the son of Peter Paix, organist at St. Anna in Augsburg, with whom he studied. He served as organist at St. Martin, Lauingen an der Donau, Swabia (1576–1609), and also was a teacher at the royal Gymnasium and at the Lateinschule. From 1609 to about 1617 he was organist at the ducal court in Neuburg an der Donau. Paix pubi. Ein schön nutz und gebreüchlich Orgel Tabulaturbuch (Laugingen an der Donau, 1583), which includes works by other composers as well. It is a valuable source of German keyboard music of his era. Several of his sacred vocal works are also extant.
