Nopitsch, Christoph Friedrich Wilhelm
German organist, teacher, and composer; b. Kirchensittenbach, near Nuremberg, Feb. 4, 1758; d. Nördlingen, May 22, 1824. He received training in organ, harpsichord, and composition from Johann Siebenkäs and G.W. Gruber in Nuremberg, Joseph Riepel in Regensburg, Eberhard Beck in Passau, and Georg Benda and Anton Schweitzer in Gotha. From 1781 he was organist and music director in Nördlingen, where he also was Kantor of the gymnasium from 1800. He publ, a singing method in 1784. Nopitsch was especially admired as a lieder composer. He also wrote a comic opera, 3 syms., piano concertos, chamber music, an oratorio, and a cantata.
