Mulet, Henri

Mulet, Henri, French organist, teacher, and composer; b. Paris, Oct. 17, 1878; d. Draguignan, Sept. 20, 1967. He studied with Delsart (premier prix in cello, 1893), Leroux and Pugno (premier prix in harmony, 1896), and Guilmant and Widor (2nd prix in organ, 1897) at the Paris Cons. He taught at the École Niedermeyer (1899–1917) and the Schola Cantorum (1924–31) in Paris, and also held various positions as an organist. In 1937 he settled in Draguignan, where he played organ at the Cathedral until entering a convent in 1958. Mulet composed various orch. and organ works but destroyed most of his MSS in 1937. His best known works are the organ pieces Esquisses byzantines and Carillon sortie.
