Mortensen, Otto (Jacob Hubertz)

Mortensen, Otto (Jacob Hubertz) , Danish pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Copenhagen, Aug. 18, 1907; d. Ãrhus, Aug. 30, 1986. He studied with Chri-stiansen (piano), Rung-Keller (organ), and Jeppeson (theory) at the Copenhagen Cons. (1925–29). He made his debut as a pianist in Copenhagen (1930), and continued his studies in Berlin (1930), with Milhaud and Desormière in Paris (1939), and at the Univ. of Copenhagen (M.A., 1956). He taught at the Copenhagen Cons. (1942–66) and at the Univ. of Ârhus (1966–74). He wrote mostly vocal music, including many songs; also a Piano Concerto (1945); Sym. (1956); 2 string quartets (1937, 1955); Quartet for Flute, Violin, Cello, and Piano (1938); Wind Quintet (1944); Oboe Sonata (1947); piano pieces.
