Morini (real name, Siracusano), Erica

Morini (real name, Siracusano), Erica, Austrian-born American violinist; b. Vienna, Jan. 5,1904; d. N.Y., Oct. 30, 1995. Her father was Italian and her mother Austrian. She first studied at her father’s music school in Vienna. At 7, she became a student of Ševčik at the Vienna Cons. She was 12 when she made her professional debut in Vienna, and then was invited to appear as a soloist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orch. and the Berlin Phil. On Jan. 26,1921, she made her U.S. debut as soloist in 3 concertos with Bodanzky and the Metropolitan Opera orch. in N.Y. She subsequently appeared as a soloist with various U.S. orchs. until returning to Europe in 1924 to pursue her career. After the Anschluss in 1938, she emigrated to the U.S. and in 1943 became a naturalized American citizen. After World War II ended in 1945, she toured extensively at home and abroad.
