Moldoveanu, Vasile

Moldoveanu, Vasile, Romanian tenor; b. Kon-stanza, Oct. 6, 1935. He was a student of Badescu in Bucharest, where he made his operatic debut in 1966 as Rinuccio. In 1972 he made his first appearance in Stuttgart as Edgardo, and then sang Alfredo at the Vienna State Opera and Rodolfo at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1976. In 1977 he sang at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at the Chicago Lyric Opera, and on May 19 of that year he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Rodolfo. He appeared as Don Carlos at the Hamburg State Opera in 1978, and sang that role at his debut at London’s Covent Garden in 1979. His later engagements took him to Zürich (1980), Monte Carlo (1982), Nice (1988), Rome (1990), and other European music centers.
