Mannes, Clara (née Damrosch)
Mannes, Clara (née Damrosch), German-born American pianist and teacher, daughter of Leopold Damrosch and mother of Leopold Damrosch Mannes; b. Breslau, Dec. 12, 1869; d. N.Y., March 16, 1948. She was a pupil of her father, of Scholtz in Dresden, and of Busoni in Berlin (1897). In 1898 she married David Mannes, with whom she toured in duo concerts throughout the U.S. In 1916 they founded the David Mannes Music School in N.Y., where she taught for many years.
