Lindblad, Otto (Jonas)

Lindblad, Otto (Jonas), Swedish conductor and composer; b. Karlstop, March 31,1809; d. Norra Mellby, Jan. 24, 1864. He first studied at the Växjö Cathedral school, and later at the Univ. of Lund. He also studied music in Lund with Mathias Lundholm (1832–36). Following training in composition with K.-A. Krebs in Hamburg (1841), he completed his education at the Univ. of Lund (filosofie magister, 1844), where he conducted its men’s chorus. After conducting his own men’s vocal quartet, he served as a parish clerk in Norra Mellby, where he also conducted 2 parish church choirs. In 1857 he was made a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. Lindblad wrote much vocal music, distinguishing himself particularly with his a cappella works for men’s voices.
