Licette, Miriam

Licette, Miriam, English soprano; b. Chester, Sept. 9, 1892; d. Twyford, Aug. 11, 1969. She was trained in Milan and Paris, her principal mentors being Marchesi, Jean de Reszke, and Sabbatini. In 1911 she made her operatic debut in Rome as Cio-Cio-San. From 1916 to 1920 she sang with the Beecham Opera Co., and from 1919 to 1929 she appeared in the international seasons at London’s Covent Garden. She also was a member of the British National Opera Co. from 1922 to 1928. She won particular praise as a Mozartian. Among her other roles were Eurydice, Gutrune, Eva, Desdemona, Juliette, and Louise.
