Lemaire, Louis
Lemaire, Louis, French composer; b. 1693 or 1694; d. Tours, c. 1750. He was a chorister at Meaux Cathedral, where he was a student of the organist Sebastien de Brossard. After settling in Paris, he established himself as the foremost composer of cantatilles, which were regularly performed at the Concert Français and the Concert Spirituel (1728–36). In all, he publ. 66 such works (1728-50; 5 not extant). Among his other works were the cantata collection Les quatre saisons (1724), motets (2 vols., c. 1728), airs, and instrumental pieces.
