Kâlmân, Oszkâr
Kâlmân, Oszkâr, Hungarian bass; b. Kis- Szent-Péter, June 18, 1887; d. Budapest, Sept. 18, 1971. He was a student at the Budapest Academy of Music of József Sik. In 1913 he made his debut as Sarastro at the Budapest Opera, where, in 1918, he created Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard. After appearances in Hamburg (1926), at the Berlin Kroll Opera (1927), and in Vienna and Barcelona (1927–29), he again sang at the Budapest Opera (1929–54); also made appearances as a concert artist. Kaiman was particularly admired for his Wagnerian roles.
