Jenson, Dylana (Ruth)
Jenson, Dylana (Ruth), American violinist; b. Los Angeles, May 14, 1961. Her mother gave her early instruction in violin playing, and she also had lessons in childhood with Manuel Compinsky and, later, with Heifetz and Gingold. She made her formal debut as soloist in the Mendelssohn Concerto with Kostelanetz and the N.Y. Phil. at the age of 12; at 13, she made her European debut with Zürich’s Tonhalle Orch. After further instruction in Milstein’s master classes in Zürich (1973–76), she won second prize in the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1978. Thereafter she appeared as a soloist with major orchs. and as a recitalist in North and South America, Europe, and the Far East.
