Isamitt, Carlos
Isamitt, Carlos, Chilean composer; b. Rengo, Colchagua, March 13, 1887; d. Santiago, July 2, 1974. He studied both music and painting in Chile, then in Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. As a composer, he became interested in the folk music of the Araucanian Indians, and made use of these authentic materials in several of his works: 4 movimientos sinfónicos (1960), Te kuduam mapuche for Voice, Bassoon, and the Araucanian Drum Kultrún (1958), Harp Concerto (1957), and Sonata for Flute Solo (1954).
