Horneman, Christian Frederik Emil
Horneman, Christian Frederik Emil, Danish choral conductor, teacher, and composer, son of Johan Ole Emil Horneman; b. Copenhagen, Dec. 17, 1840; d. there, June 8, 1906. He studied at the Leipzig Cons. (1858–60), where he became a friend of Grieg. He composed light music under various pseudonyms. Returning to Copenhagen, he organized a concert society, then was founder-director of the Koncertforeningen (1874–79) and of his own Cons. (1880–1906). He wrote an opera, Aladdin (Copenhagen, Nov. 18, 1888), 2 string quartets, and numerous songs.
