Hofmann, Casimir (actually, Kazimierz)
Hofmann, Casimir (actually, Kazimierz), Polish pianist, conductor, and composer, father of Josef (Casimir) (Józef Kazimierz) Hofmann; b. Kraków, 1842; d. Berlin, July 6, 1911. He was a pupil of R. Fischof (piano) and Gachlechner (harmony) at the Vienna Cons. (1851–56), and later studied at the Univ. of Kraków. After conducting at the Kraków Theater (1868–78), he was prof, of harmony and counterpoint at the Warsaw Inst. of Music (1878–86); also conducted at Warsaw’s Wielki Theater. He composed mainly music for the stage.
