Hoelscher, Ulf

Hoelscher, Ulf, talented German violinist; b. Kitzingen, Jan. 17, 1942. After study with Bruno Masurat at the Heidelberg Cons., he received a grant that enabled him to go to America and enroll in the classes of Galamian at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia and of Gingold at the Ind. Univ. School of Music in Bloomington. He then developed an international career, touring Europe, Australia, and the Far East, as well as the U.S. In 1981 he became a prof, at the Karlsruhe Hochschule für Musik. In 1987 he was appointed a prof, at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste. His repertoire is commendably large, encompassing works of the Baroque era, the Romantic school, and the contemporary avant-garde.
