Helm, Theodor (Otto), Austrian music critic; b. Vienna, April 9, 1843; d. there, Dec. 23, 1920. He studied jurisprudence in Vienna and became a government employee, and in 1867 he began writing music criticism for various Viennese publications. In 1874 became a music teacher at Horák’s music school. From 1875 to 1901 he was ed. of Fromme’s Kalender für die Musikalische Welt. He publ. Beethovens Streichquartette: Versuch einer technischen Analyse im Zusammenhang mit ihrem geistigen Gehalt (Leipzig, 1885; 2nd ed., 1910)
