Hart, Philip

Hart, Philip, English organist and composer; b. London, c. 1674; d. there, July 17, 1749. He was asst. organist (1696–97) and organist (1697–1749) at St. Andrew, Undershaft, and also organist at St. Michael, Cornhill (1704–23) and St. Dionis, Backchurch (1724–49). He wrote a number of keyboard pieces and vocal works, his finest work being the Ode in Praise of Mustek or Ode to Harmony (1702). He also wrote The Morning Hymn for 2 Voices, Cello, and Harpsichord, after Milton’s Paradise Lost, Book V (London, c. 1729).
