Hart, Frederic Patton

Hart, Frederic Patton, American composer; b. Aberdeen, Wash., Sept. 5, 1894. He studied at the American Cons, in Chicago and at the Art Inst. there, and later took courses with Rubin Goldmark, with Ernest Hutcheson, and at the Diller-Quaile School in N.Y. He taught at Sarah Lawrence Coll. (1929–47) and at the Juilliard School of Music (1947–60), and then settled in Los Angeles. His works include the operas The Wheel of Fortune (1943) and The Farewell Supper (posthumous; N.Y., Feb. 3, 1984), the opera- ballet, The Romance of Robot (1937), chamber music, piano pieces, and songs.
