Grünbaum, (originally Miiller,) Therese

Grünbaum, (originally Müller,) Therese, famous Austrian soprano, daughter of Wenzel Müller; b. Vienna, Aug. 24, 1791; d. Berlin, Jan. 30, 1876. She studied with her father, and appeared on stage while still a child. In 1807 she went to Prague, and in 1816 she joined the Kärnthnertortheater in Vienna, remaining as a principal member there until 1826. While in Vienna, she gained fame for her Rossini roles; also created the role of Eglantine in Weber’s Euryanthe. After appearances in Berlin (1828-30), she taught voice. She married the tenor Johann Christoff (b. Haslau, Oct. 28, 1785; d. Berlin, Oct. 10, 1870); a daughter, Caroline (b. Prague, March 18, 1814; d. Braunschweig, May 26, 1868), was also a soprano.
