Grosheim, Georg Christoph
Grosheim, Georg Christoph, German writer on music and composer; b. Kassel, July 1, 1764; d. there, Nov. 18, 1841. He spent his entire life in Kassel. He was a pupil of Christian Kalkbrenner and Johannes Becker. He was a violist in the court orch. (1781-82) and ed. of the magazine on singing, Euterpe (1797-98). He wrote several books on music and an autobiography (Kassel, 1819). Grosheim composed 3 operas for Kassel: Titania, oder Liebe durch Zauberei (1792), Das heilige Kleeblatt (1793; Oct. 1794), and Les Esclaves d’Alger (Oct. 14, 1808; not extant).
