Goltermann, Georg (Eduard)
Goltermann, Georg (Eduard), German cellist, conductor, and composer; b. Hannover, Aug. 19, 1824; d. Frankfurt am Main, Dec. 29, 1898. He studied cello with A.C. Prell in Hannover; then studied cello with J. Menter and composition with I. Lachner in Munich. After touring as a cellist and serving briefly as a music director in Wiirzburg, he was asst. music director (1853-74) and music director (1874-98) of the Frankfurt am Main Stadttheater. He wrote a Sym., 3 overtures, 8 cello concertos, much piano music, and songs.
