Golitzin Yuri (Nikolaievich)
Golitzin, Yuri (Nikolaievich), Russian conductor and composer, son of Nikolai (Borisovich) Golitzin; b. St. Petersburg, Dec. 11, 1823; d. there, Sept. 24, 1872. After training with Lomakin, he pursued his studies in Dresden and Leipzig. In 1842 he organized a serf choir; with it and his own orch., he made tours of Russia and Europe. Following a sojourn in England (1858-62), he resumed his career in Russia. He wrote 2 orch. fantasies, 2 masses, choral music, and piano pieces.
