Giacomini, Giuseppe

Giacomini, Giuseppe, Italian tenor; b. Padua, Sept. 7, 1940. He received vocal instruction in Padua, Treviso, and Milan. In 1966 he made his operatic debut as Pinkerton in Vercelli, and then appeared frequently in Berlin and Vienna (from 1972), Hamburg (from 1973), Milan’s La Scala (from 1974), and at the Paris Opera (from 1975). In 1976 he made his U.S. operatic debut as Verdi’s Alvaro in Cincinnati. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. in that same role on Nov. 27, 1976. In 1980 he portrayed Dick Johnson at his first appearance at London’s Covent Garden. He was engaged as Radames in Chicago in 1988, and in 1993 he sang Otello in Monte Carlo. He portrayed Cavaradossi at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1998.
