Draghi, Giovanni Battista

Draghi, Giovanni Battista, Italian organist, harpsichordist, and composer; b. c. 1640; d. London, 1708. He was in London by 1667, where he became chief organist at the Queen’s Catholic Chapel in 1673. In 1687 he was made organist at King James IFs private chapel. He also was music teacher to the princesses Mary and Anne. He wrote the music to Dryden’s ode From Harmony, from Heavenly Harmony for the Song for St. Cecilia’s Day (1687) and (with Locke) to ShadweWs Psyche (1675) and d’Urfey’s The Wonders in the Sun, or The Kingdom of Birds (1706); also many songs, and instructive harpsichord lessons.
