Domanínská (real name, Klobásková)

Domanínská (real name, Klobásková), LibušC, Czech soprano; b. Brno, July 4, 1924. She was a student at the Brno Cons, of Hana Pirkova and Bohuslav Sobesky. In 1945 she made her operatic debut as Blazenka in Smetana’s Tajemstvi, and continued to sing there until 1955. In 1955 she became a member of the Prague National Theater, where she was a principal artist until 1985. She also was a member of the Vienna State Opera (1958–68) and a guest artist with other European opera companies. She likewise pursued an active concert career. In 1966 she was made an Artist of Merit and in 1974 a National Artist by the Czech government. In addition to her roles in operas by Mozart, Verdi, and Puccini, she won particular praise for her portrayals in operas by Czech and Russian masters.
