Dokshitcher, Timofei

Dokshitcher, Timofei, Russian trumpeter and pedagogue; b. Nezhin, Dec. 13, 1921. He was a student in Moscow of Vassilenki and at the Gnessin Inst. of Vasilevski and Tabakov; he later studied conducting with Ginzburg at the Moscow Cons. (1952–57). From 1945 to 1983 he was principal trumpet in the orch. of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow; he also pursued a solo career, and from 1971 served as a prof, at the Moscow Cons. In addition to championing the works of contemporary Russian composers, he also prepared transcriptions for his instrument.
