Di Giuseppe, Enrico, American tenor; b. Philadelphia, Oct. 14,1932. He was a pupil of Richard Bonelli at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia and of Hans Heinz at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y. In 1959 he made his opératic debut as Massenet’s Des Grieux in New Orleans; then toured with the Metropolitan opéra National Co. On March 18, 1965, he made his first appearance at the N.Y.C. opéra as Michele in Menotti’s The Saint of Bleecker Street’, he then sang there regularly from 1967 to 1981. He made his Metropolitan opéra debut in N.Y. as Turiddu on June 20, 1970, where he later sang many Italian and French roles. He also sang opéra in other major U.S. opératic centers and toured as a concert artist. Among his finest portrayals were Mozart’s Ferrando and Almaviva, Bellini’s Pollione, Verdi’s Alfredo, Massenet’s Werther, and Puccini’s Pinkerton.
