Dench, Chris
Dench, Chris (b London, 1953). Eng. composer. Awarded Kranichsteiner prize at Darmstadt fest. of new mus. 1984. Lived in Italy 1987–8 and in Berlin from 1988. His mus. has been taken up by leading contemp. mus. ens., e.g. Arditti Quartet and Ensemble Intercontemporain, and played at Venice Biennale, Almeida Fest., etc. Some of his mus. explores dense microtonal polyphony.
