Demuth (real name, Pokorný), Leopold
Demuth (real name, Pokorný), Leopold , esteemed Austrian baritone; b. Brunn, Nov. 2, 1861; d. while giving a concert in Czernowitz, March 4, 1910. He studied with Joseph Gänsbacher in Vienna, making his debut in 1889 in Halle as Hans Heiling. He sang in Leipzig (1891–95) and Hamburg (1895–97), then joined the Vienna Court opéra, remaining on its roster until his death. He also sang at Bayreuth (1899), where he gained recognition as a fine Wagnerian.
