Copland, Marc (originally, Cohen, Marc)

Copland, Marc (originally, Cohen, Marc) , jazz pianist, alto saxophonist; b. Philadelphia, Pa., May 27, 1948. He originally used alto as his main instrument, playing it with Chico Hamilton and others (1970–72). By 1972, he was beginning to gig more on piano, and soon decided to concentrate solely on it with John Abercrombie and others. From the early 1990s on, he played regularly with James Moody, as well as leading his own groups. He changed his name to Copland to avoid confusion with other Marc Cohens in other fields of music.
