Bryant, Dave

Bryant, Dave, avant-garde jazz keyboardist; b. Petersburg, Va., May 27, 1958. He attended Shenandoah Coll. and Cons, of Music in Winchester, Va. (1976–78). He moved to Boston to attend Berklee (1978-82; B.M., Jazz Piano Performance). He then began studies with Omette Coleman in 1983. Bryant released a self-titled debut album with his trio Shock Exchange (1986), featuring John Turner and Chris Bowman. In 1990 Bryant joined on as an official member of Prime Time, marking Omette Coleman’s first extended work with a keyboard instrument in decades. In June 1995 he recorded a project at Harmolodic Studios with long-time associates Turner, Bowman, George Garzone, Bob Gullotti, and recording engineer Roger Nichols. He is a faculty member at the Longy School of Music.
