Ashrafi, Mukhtar
Ashrafi, Mukhtar, Russian composer and teacher; b. Bukhara, June 11, 1912; d. Tashkent, Dec. 15, 1975. He studied composition in Samarkand, with S. Vasilenko at the Moscow Cons. (1934–37), and at the Leningrad Cons. (1941–43). In 1944 he settled in Tashkent, where he was a teacher at the Cons. In many of his works, he glorified themes from Central Asian history.
