The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill ★★★ 2003 (G)

This cute little documentary is for the birds. But the birds are cool, man. Free-spirit Mark Bittner moved to San Francisco during the dawn of the hippie age with dreams of becoming a professional musician. Instead of flocking fans, he acquired a flock of parrots. Over the next 25 years these escaped tropical pets often roosted on his front porch, finding the climate nice and the owner quite hospitable. Soon enough they began following him everywhere, even when he was forced to move. Bittner grows to be a local icon and tourist attraction, kind of like the Birdman of San Francisco. A tender little character study about the bohemian nature of life. 83m/C DVD . USD: Judy Irving; C: Judy Irving.
