Twelve-year-old Miles (Marquette) aspires to be a jazz pianist but must practice at the local bar because his single mom Laura (Draper) can't afford a piano. But Miles has a bigger problem—he suffers from the misunderstood Tourette's syndrome, which brings him close to his idol, sax player Tyrone (Hines), who is similarly afflicted.
