Soul Man
Soul Man ★★ 1986 (PG-13)
Denied the funds he expected for his Harvard tuition, a young white student (Howell) masquerades as a black in order to get a minority scholarship. As a black student at Harvard, Howell learns about racism and bigotry. Pleasant lightweight comedy with romance thrown in (Chong is the black girl he falls for), and with pretensions to social satire that it never achieves. 112m/C VHS, DVD . C. Thomas Howell, Rae Dawn Chong, James Earl Jones, Leslie Nielsen, Arye Gross; D: Steve Miner; W: Carol Black; C: Jeffrey Jur; M: Tom Scott.
