The melancholy tale of a young nun working in the Congo and Belgium during WWII, and struggling to reconcile her free spirit with the rigors of the order. Gabrielle (Hepburn) is the daughter of a Belgian doctor (Jagger), who leaves the convent as Sister Luke. Her assignment in the Congo is at a European hospital where's she influenced by dedicated surgeon, Dr. Fortunai (Finch).
