Land of Plenty ★★ 2004

Director Wenders takes on some post-9/11 angst in this well-meaning digital video feature. Lana (Williams), the daughter of missionaries, arrives in LA after living in the Middle East. She takes a job at a homeless shelter while she searches for her long-estranged Uncle Paul (Diehl). Paul is a troubled Vietnam vet who has become a self-appointed homeland security expert—traveling the streets in a van filled with surveillance equipment. The two finally meet, and bond, over their mutual sense of helplessness and confusion. 119m/C DVD . US Michelle Williams, John Diehl, Shaun Toub, Wendell Pierce, Richard Edson, Burt Young, Gloria Stuart, Bernie (Bernard) White; D: Wim Wenders; W: Wim Wenders, Michael Meredith; C: Franz Lustig; M: Thomas Hanreich.
