Joe's Apartment ★★ 1996 (PG-13)

Fresh-from-Iowa Joe (O'Connell) comes to New York, finds a squalid apartment, and then discovers its other occupants are hordes of singing, joking cockroaches. Lucky for Joe, his unwelcome roommates are on his side, even helping out with his love life, when necessary. Gross but interesting, throw in Vaughn as a panty-wearing politician and you've got yourself a potential cult-movie favorite. Neat freaks probably won't enjoy it much. Flick took three years to finish as computer-animated roaches had to do all the dancing and singing. Feature directorial debut for writer Payson, who created the original 1992 live-action/animation MTV short. 82m/C VHS, DVD . Jerry O'Connell, Megan Ward, Robert Vaughn, Jim Turner, Don Ho, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, Shiek Mahmud-Bey; D: John Payson; W: John Payson; C: Peter Deming; V: Billy West, Reginald (Reggie) Hudlin.
