Control ★★ 2007 (R)

Corbijn makes his directorial debut in this compelling B&W bio of Ian Curtis (Riley), frontman for British postpunk band “Joy Division.” Epileptic and suffering from depression, Curtis is torn between a conventional life—a teenage marriage, child, and steady job—and the excitement and temptations of the music world. Although Curtis committed suicide in 1980 at the age of 23 this isn't the typical live fast/die young rock fantasy, but a thoughtful depiction a of young man who couldn't reconcile competing impulses. Based on the memoir “Touching from the Distance” by Deborah Curtis. 121m/B DVD .
