Business is Business ★½ Diary of a Hooker; Any Special Way 1971

Verhoeven's first feature film (after his television work) is a sex comedy about a couple of prostitutes who are apartment neighbors in Amsterdam. Nel's got an abusive boy-friend she just can't shake despite the efforts of her friend Blonde Greet. BG decides they should become partners (she's got a lot of fetish clients) but she gets put-out when Nel finds a nice, boring guy who wants to marry her and take her out of the life. Especially since Blonde Greet's special guy is already hitched. A slight and surprisingly timid story considering Verhoeven's later work but everyone's gotta start somewhere. Dutch with subtitles. 89m/C DVD . NL Ronnie Bierman, Sylvia De Leur, Piet Romer, Jules Hamel, Bernard Droog, Henk Molenberg, Albert Mol; D: Paul Verhoeven; W: Gerard Soeteman; C: Jan De Bont; M: Mulius Steffaro.
