BARRETO, Mascarenhas. Portuguese, b. 1923. Genres: Poetry, History, Literary criticism and history, Popular Culture, Translations. Career: Services director for television studio, 1963-74; teacher of sociology, design, marketing, and publicity, now retired; freelance writer; Served as an editor for Livros do Brasil and for Aster during the 1970s; competed in the 1951 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland, as a fencer. Publications: Touros em Portugal, 1962; Origens liricas e motivacao poetica, trans. by as Lyrical Origins and Poetic Motivation, 1970; Historia da policia em Portugal, 1979; O Portugues Cristovao Colombo, agente secreto do Rei Dom Joao II, 1988, trans. as The Portuguese Columbus, Secret Agent of King John II, 1992; A Verdadeira Identidade de Criostovao Colombo (The True Identity of Christopher Columbus-Documental Proof).
