Alive and Kicking
Alive and Kicking ★★½ Indian Summer 1996 (R)
Tonio (Flemyng) is a handsome, vain ballet dancer with AIDS, who hides his emotions beneath a witty facade and his work. At a club he meets the older, equally driven Jack (Sher), an AIDS counselor, who pursues him. Though they become lovers, Tonio's obsession with his latest (and last) dance role causes a rift between them. Subplot between Tonio and lesbian dancer Millie (Parish) is self-conscious and Tonio's theatrics can become annoying but both Flemyng and Sher do their best in somewhat one-note roles. 100m/C VHS, DVD. GB Jason Flemyng, Anthony Sher, Dorothy Tutin, Anthony (Corlan) Higgins, Diane Parish, Bill Nighy; D: Nancy Meckler; W: Martin Sherman; C: Chris Seager; M: Peter Salem.
