Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker ★★ Stormbreaker 2006 (PG)

Horowitz adapted the story from the first book in his own young adult series about 14-year-old Alex Rider (newcomer Pettyfer), who's basically a junior James Bond. Alex is orphaned and living with his spy uncle Ian (McGregor), who's quickly killed off, thus leaving Alex himself to be recruited by MI-6 boss Blunt (Nighy). Good thing the teen's already had all that special ops training. The villain is the evercreepy Rourke, here playing some eviltycoon with a grudge, and Silverstone is Alex's helpful housekeeper, Jack. There's gadgets and action galore for the undemanding youngster while the adults can stick with Ian Fleming. 93m/C DVD . GE Ewan McGregor, Mickey Rourke, Bill Nighy, Sophie Okonedo, Alex Pettyfer, Alicia Silverstone, Missi Pyle, Sarah Bolger, Damian Lewis, Andy Serkis, Robbie Coltrane, Stephe Fry; D: Geoffrey Sax; W: Anthony Horowitz; C: Chris Seager; M: Alan Parker.
