Yanjmaa, Sühbaataryn (1893–1962)

Mongolian head of state. Name variations: Yanjmaa Suhbaataryn. Born in 1893; died in 1962; married Nemendeyn Yanjmaa, also known as Sühbaatar (a Mongolian national hero).

Yanjmaa Sühbaataryn was first deputy chair of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural of Mongolia. From September 23, 1953, to July 7, 1954, she acted as chair of the Presidium (effectively head of state) during a vacancy in that position. Thus, except for queens, she was the first woman political ruler in contemporary Mongolian history.
