McClements, Lyn (1951—)

Australian swimmer . Born in 1951, in Nedlands, Western Australia.

Lyn McClements was born in the small town of Nedlands, Western Australia, in 1951. She participated in competitive swimming from an early age, but began to focus on the butterfly stroke after coming under the tutelage of coach Kevin Duff in 1967. The following year, she captured the state senior titles in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly stroke, with times impressive enough to secure her a position on the 1968 Australian Olympic team. Although she did not win an individual medal at the Mexico City games, she swam the butterfly on the 4x100-meter medley team that captured the silver medal. McClements was disqualified at the 1970 Australian championships, and subsequently retired from competition. After a long layoff, she returned to swimming to participate in senior events.
